about

This musical journey of jazz and spirituals is presented by African American expatriate musicians who live in France. It was inspired by recording the musical soundtrack to a video documentary on Black American soldiers fighting in France during World War One, entitled "Fighting for Respect" by the American film producer, Joanne Burke. She offered and encouraged support to develop this recording, entitled " The warmth of our Songs", a reflection on the history and present times of African Americans artists and their roots while co-existing in France. The music also highlights the challenges and uncertainties of life since the outbreak of the virus COVID-19 for people of all creeds and cultures.

Ursuline Karison is from Chicago and has lived in France for many years. She has an accomplished background in music, theatre and poetry. Darryl Hall is from Philadelphia via Brooklyn where he lived for many years too. He has performed jazz and other music with many renowned artists. They both have toured extensively around the world.

It is hoped that this music can offer a place for calm, reflection and respite from the rapid news cycles of discord and uncertainty. Music should nourish the heart and soul and keep us dreaming and reflecting on life.
